Ask about the gemstone’s identity, whether it is natural or laboratory-grown, and any treatments. For colored diamonds, the origin of the color is a separate question from the origin of the diamond itself.
Look at the individual piece, its documentation, and its care requirements together. A beautiful photograph is an introduction, not a complete description.
